Types of Tarmac We Install
Different jobs need different tarmac. Here's what we lay and where it fits:
Hot-rolled asphalt (standard driveway tarmac)
The classic black tarmac finish. Best for residential driveways and low-traffic private roads. Two-layer lay — 50mm base course plus 25mm wearing course on a proper Type 1 sub-base. Smooth, black, holds colour well for the first decade.
Stone mastic asphalt (SMA) for heavier traffic
Used where you need more strength — car parks, access roads, commercial yards. Denser aggregate bind, more expensive per square metre, but takes HGV loads and lasts longer on commercial sites.
Coloured and decorative tarmac
Red, green or buff finishes for residential driveways that want to stand out without going to block paving prices. Same structural performance as standard tarmac, pigmented aggregate on top.
Patch and overlay tarmacing
When the existing surface is sound but the top layer is worn or cracked. We plane off the old wearing course, re-seal, and lay a fresh top. Cheaper than a full dig-out and good for another 10-15 years if the sub-base is still solid.

Finish layer goes down while the base is still warm, rolled to a smooth, dense finish.
